Orientation Program


  • We are committed to ensuring that all overseas students get all the support they need to adjust to life and study in Australia and to be successful in their studies. This orientation is usually scheduled on the first day of the timetable.

    Prior to commencing your studies, you will be required to participate in a compulsory orientation program that will include information on:

    • Access to Australian Institute of Healthcare’s policies and procedures and relevant supporting documents
    • Details of internal and external support services available to assist in the transition into life and study in Australia, such as welfare services, accommodation services, academic and career advice, IT support, student learning assistance, English language support and inclusion activities
    • Legal, emergency and health services
    • Facilities and resources
    • Organisational policies and procedures including course progress, attendance monitoring, deferral, suspension and cancellation, course transfer and complaints and appeals
    • Any student visa conditions relating to course progress and attendance.

    Please note the order may be amended depending on student numbers and season / daylight / weather permitting

    9:00-9:30 Welcome / introductions
    9:30-10:00 Tour of Bayside International College and immediate external areas around Bayside International College, including Fire Drill/Exits
    10:00-10:15 Break
    10:15-11:15 Orientation: Stage 1
    11:15-12:00 Local area foot tour and Mascot Library registration
    12:00-12:30 Lunch break
    12:30-13:15 Orientation: Stage 2
    13:15-13:45 Student interviews
    13:45-14:00 Break
    14:00-15:00 Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Testing

  • Orientation includes the following


    On arrival at Australian Institute of Healthcare, you will be welcomed by the PEO and the Head Trainer and Assessor. You will also be introduced to any other students starting on the same day.

    You will be given a tour of Australian Institute of Healthcare, during which you will be shown the rooms available to students, our computer system, and other facilities and resources available.

    Orientation: Stage 1, in which we’ll discuss important issues about:

    • Your studies
    • Support services
    • Legal services
    • Emergency and health services available

    You will have a half-hour meal break. This is a good chance to meet other Australian Institute of Healthcare students! Orientation: Stage 2, in which we’ll discuss further important issues about:

    • USIs
    • Complaints and appeals processes
    • Any visa condition relating to course progress and attendance
    • PEO meeting / ‘interview’

    Student interviews: Your chance to meet one-on-one with Australian Institute of Healthcare staff to learn more about each other and ask any questions you might have.

    You will be given an LLN test by the Head Trainer and Assessor to help decide the level of support you require.
